Dad/Papa

These past 2 weeks have been awful, for lack of a better word.  Our hearts are filled with shock and sadness.  Our Dad and Papa will be greatly missed. 😢

Dennis Patrick Desmond, 72, of Parsonsfield passed away on Thursday March 22, 2018 at the Gosnell Hospice Home in Scarborough.  He was born in Portland on June 16, 1945 a son of the late William Jr., and Anna (Kroll) Desmond.

He married Linda Hartley on November 22, 1969 at St. Margaret's Church in Old Orchard Beach.  He had also served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a paratrooper.

Over the years Dennis was employed at Potter's Furniture, Swenson Granite in Wells, Nike Inc., H.A. Mapes, and most recently at Dead River Oil as an Oil Burner Technician retiring in 2004.

He enjoyed the outdoors including hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and picking blueberries.  He enjoyed reading, "tinkering" with stuff, going to yard sales, and collecting things.  He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Dennis is predeceased by his parents, a stepfather Harold Randall, a sister Marcia, and brothers Gerald, Paul, John, and William III.

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Hartley) Desmond of Parsonsfield, son Patrick Desmond and his wife Crystal and their daughters Charlotte and Caroline of Alfred, daughter Christine Bolduc, her husband Robert and their sons Blake and Ryan of Saco, daughter Angela Legere, her husband Marcel and their sons Riley and Logan of Sanford.  He is also survived by one sister, Anna Lanoie of Alfred, brothers Ralph of Sanford, and Donald of Saco as well as many nieces and nephews.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to his memory to Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine.  The family of Dennis P. Desmond would like to thank the staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine.  The family will be forever grateful for their care, compassion, and ability to help them through this most difficult time with dignity and grace.

Visiting hours for Dennis will be held on Sunday March 25 from 10AM to 12noon at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
