Borax Crystal Snowflakes

These snowflakes came out so pretty and Charlotte thought they were "so cool!"  Next time, we'll experiment with different colors and shapes.
We started yesterday by making a snowflake shape from a white pipe cleaner.  We tied one end of a string to the snowflake and the other end to a pencil.
We filled the mason jar with boiling water and added borax.  3 tablespoons per 1 cup of water.

Charlotte loves to add food coloring and see the water change color.

Drop the snowflake in making sure it doesn't touch the jar and is completey submerged.

Let sit overnight.

Take them out in the morning and be amazed.

Hang them in your window or on your tree.

R.I.P. Morgan

October 12, 2006-November 23, 2012
Our beloved best friend passed away at 3am this morning.  Morgan was truly an AWESOME dog and he will never be forgotten.  He gave us 6 joyful years of unconditional love and it wasn't easy at times from being locked up 12 hours of day when he was a hyper active puppy to the more traumatic experiences of when he was diagnosed with Addison's disease in 2006 and his surgery to repair his ACL this past year.  But he was a trooper and made it through.  He was a fun loving, mild mannered member of our family and we miss him so much.
His death was sudden and unknown.  When we arrived home Thanksgiving day, he had vomited several times and was lethargic.  We knew that it was almost time for his monthly injection so our first thought was that he was having an Addisonian crisis.  We gave him the shot and hoped for the best, but when I woke around midnight I discovered several pools of blood around our home.  I woke Pat and he called an emergency clinic.  At this time, Morgan could not move and I knew that this may very well be the end.  Pat carried him to the car and by the time he got to the hospital Morgan was having a hard time breathing.  They took him in and knew right away that there was nothing they could do so he was put to sleep.  They speculated that he may have gotten into some type of poison, but I don't believe that to be the case and we'll never know for sure.

Today was a rough day.  Pat made him a box and laid him to rest in our yard.  We had to explain to Charlotte where Morgan was, but she doesn't fully understand that he is gone forever.  She knows he was sick and still thinks he is at the doctors and will be home soon.  I tear up every time she mentions his name.  He was my Christmas surprise and he will be in our hearts forever.

Loved to lay by a warm fire

Loved ALL people, but he sure did get excited for Grandpa

Loved going for rides
LOVED FOOD!

Loved to swim

And the not so love!

Loved the leaves

Loved the hose, sprinkler, and Charlotte's squirt gun

But most of all he just loved to play with anyone, anywhere, and anytime.

WE LOVE YOU ALWAYS AND FOREVER

Cousins having FUN!

What didn't Blake, Ryan, and Charlotte do today!?
(I didn't have my camera so I used my cell phone to capture their fun day!)
Cloud dough

They even ran around the house pretending to be spies!
